OCA Advisory Committee

Statewide Advisory Committee Purpose: The OCA advisory committee member shall represent the voice of people receiving mental health services and their families by using their experiences encountered in the course of treatment and in their daily lives to contribute to mental health and disability services policy and planning in the state of Iowa. Committee members will provide information to help people obtain accurate information regarding Iowa’s mental health services. Members will provide feedback on the programming and advocacy efforts of the OCA staff by reviewing the reports and recommendations developed by OCA staff.

 

OCA committee member will help the OCA in its outreach efforts including tabling at local conferences. Committee members will also present at various meetings about the OCA and hand out resource cards and flyers locally. This will help the OCA to be able to reach all MHDS regions. All materials for conferences, meetings and for resources will be provided by the OCA. 

 

The advisory committee members shall reflect a demographically diverse group. The OCA is seeking representation from each of the 14 MHDS Regions. The total membership will be no more than 19 members. The advisory committee will choose its own chairperson and vice chairperson. 

 

The advisory committee members are expected to attend four meetings per year either in person or virtually. Mileage is reimbursable at the IRS rate; expense forms will be provided at the meeting and must be turned into NAMI Iowa. Meals will be provided when appropriate.
